Great Books for 3rd Graders
Each fall I travel to the 6 public elementary schools in Urbana to try to interest 3rd graders in some of the excellent books we have to offer. It is always fun to explore the school libraries and see which books catch the kids' fancies. So far this year the most popular titles seem to be Secret of the Painted House by Marion Dane Bauer , a spooky book about a girl who discovers a haunted playhouse in the woods behind her new home and The Painting that Wasn't There by Steve Brezenoff about a class who goes on a field trip to a museum and must solve the mystery of who stole a valuable painting. Kids who like mysteries or spooky books may want to check these two titles out.
