With the April's greening grass and blooming flowers it is easy to get excited about Earth Day (April 22). There are so many fabulous children's books out there about being green and gardening. Compost Stew : an A to Z Recipe for the Earth by Mary McKenna Siddals with illustrations by Ashley Wolff is a fun title from the past year. One of my personal favorites is A Handful of Sunshine by Melanie Eclare, where the reader meets a young girl who plants a sunflower seed. Interested in reading about the authors who write books like this? Try Michelle Schaub's blog The Little Green Pen. And next time you visit the children's department, visit our new farmer's market stand in the play area, where your child can sort and "sell" fruits and vegetables! - Elaine B.
