And the Winner Is...

This morning, the winners for the prestigious Caldecott and Newbery book awards were announced by the American Library Association.  A Sick Day for Amos McGee, written by Philip C. Stead and illustrated by Erin E. Stead, won the Caldecott for the most distinguished American children's picture book.  In addition, the Newbery Award for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature went to Clare Vanderpool for Moon Over Manifest.  For a complete list of winners,view the official press release from ALA. - Elaine B.

The winner of the Caldecott Award is Jerry Pinkney, illustrator of the Lion and the Mouse, and the winner of the Newbery Award is Rebecca Stead, author of When You Reach Me. Librarians all over the country are anxiously waiting for this coming Monday, January 18, when the American Library Association will announce the winners of the 2009 Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished picture book, and the 2009 Newbery Medal for the most distinguished American Children’s book, as well as many other awards.
