Checkmate!

Ever have the urge to say ”Checkmate!” Well, enter our chess tournament, you just might have the right reason to say that magic word. We are going to hold our very first Chess Tournament at the Library on the 3rd of September, kids in kindergarten through fifth grade are welcome. Details are in this Information/Registration document, you can also ask the Children’s librarians for the hardcopy or email scarmody@tufl.info.

Would you like to begin to learn about chess? Or sharpen up your chess skill? Or just want to meet with other kids interested in chess? We have just the place for you to go – the Urbana Free Library childrens’ chess club. This club meets every Saturday in the Children’s Department for an hour and forty-five minutes, there are also a few high school chess players who volunteer to play and teach younger kids. We also have an abundance of chess books and CD-ROMs for you to check out, and here is a short bibliography of kids’ chess related materials.

Questions? Suggestions? Call us at 367-4069 or email scarmody@tufl.info.
