New Historical Fiction

If you like historical fiction you might like one of these new books.

Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmidt is a very funny book about a boy in the 1960's who moves with his family to a run-down house in a small town in New York state. Doug has an abusive father with a bad temper and is a little rough himself but as he befriends some unusual adults in town he starts to think about the kind of person he wants to be. If you like funny main characters give this one a try.

Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai explores what it would have been like to be a Vietnamese family whose father, a soldier, goes missing. They end up immigrating to Alabama and trying to puzzle out the strange ways of their small town American neighbors. This book is told in poems by a young girl and is funny, interesting and a quick read. --Rachel V.
